## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS APPROACHING TO LAND AT HIS PRIVATE STRIP IN MARENGO, ILLINOIS. WINDS WERE NORTHEASTERLY AT ABOUT 18 KNOTS. UPON TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFTS NOSE GEAR WAS SHEARED OFF AND THE LEFT MAIN GEAR WAS SHEARED OFF JUST ABOVE THE AXLE. THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER AND CAME TO REST ON ITS BACK. BOTH MAIN SPARS APPEAR BENT (DOWNWARD) WITH THE LEFT WING SPAR SHOWING MORE DEFORMATION THAN THE RIGHT SIDE WING SPAR. GROUND SCARRING INDICATES THAT THE OSE GEAR AND MAIN TIRES IMPACTED THE GROUND ALONG THE SAME LINE, IT APPEARS THAT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK IN A VERY NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. TREES LINE THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY ON THE NORTH SIDE, THE WINDS WERE GUSTY AND SWIRLING WHICH MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA114](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA114), Apr 25, 2003: Cessna 182T (N35291), Marengo, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper flare. A factor contributing to the accident was the gusty crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
