## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PIC/OWNER AND SOLE OCCUPANT ATTEMPTED TO TURN ONTO A TAXIWAY DURING LANDING ROLLOUT, AND REALIZED THAT HE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN WITHOUT RUNNING OFF THE TAXIWAY INTO A DITCH. HE THEN SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND BROUGHT THE AIRCRAFT TO A STOP. AFTER STOPPING, HE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND RESUME TAXIING; THE BATTERY WAS TOO WEAK TO CRANK THE ENGINE THOUGH, SO HE EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND ATTEMPTED TO MANUALLY START (PROP) THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE STARTED AT HIGH-IDLE SPEED, AND THE AIRPLANE TAXIIED 7 TO 8 YARDS INTO A RUNWAY SIGN BEFORE THE PIC/OWNER COULD GET BACK INTO THE AIRPLANE AND REGAIN CONTROL OF IT. THE PROPELLER AND NOSE-GEAR STRUT FORK SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE RUNWAY SIGN WAS ALSO REPORTEDLY DAMAGED. THE PIC/OWNER STATED DURING THE INVESTIGATION THAT THE THOUGHT THE BRAKES FELT "WEAK" WHEN HE ATTEMPTED THE TURN, BUT FOLLOW-UP EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE AT A MAINTENANCE FACILITY REVEALED NO EVIDENCE OF ANY BRAKE MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
