## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 8, 2003, APPROXIMATELY 1530 HRS LOCAL TIME, AN AVIAT HUSKY A-1A N141F, IMPACTED THE GROUND NEAR THE EDGE OF AN OPEN FIELD APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES NORTH OF SANDPOINT, IDAHO. THE AIRCRAFT OWNER/PILOT RECEIVED FATAL INJURIES WHILE THE SOLE PASSENGER RECEIVED SERIOUS INJURIES BUT WAS ABLE TO EXTRICATE HIMSELF FROM THE WRECKAGE. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A NOSE DOWN POSITION. A WITNESS STATED THAT AFTER MAKING A LOW PASS DOWN A FENCE-LINE TO WAVE AT THE PASSENGER'S GIRLFRIEND AND AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED A STEEP LEFT TURN FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY A SLIGHT PITCH UP OF THE NOSE AND A ONE HALF ROLL TO THE RIGHT, THE AIRCRAFT THEN CONTACTED THE GROUND NOSE FIRST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03FA096](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03FA096), Jun 8, 2003: Aviat A-1A (N141F), Sandpoint, ID, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed during a low pass maneuver which resulted in a stall. A related factor was the trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
