## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 6, 2003, AT APPROXIMATELY 1600 HOURS CDT, N8246J, A ROTORWAY EXECUTIVE 90 EXPERIMENTAL HELICOPTER, WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT, THE PILOT IN COMMAND EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE POWER DECREASE. THE TROUBLE WAS AN OVERHEATING ENGINE. THE PILOT IN COMMAND EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING AND UPON POWER DECREASE, THE ENGINE FALTERED THEN FAILED. AN AUTOROTATION WAS ENTERED AND AT GROUND CONTACT, THE AIRCRAFT PIVOTED TO THE RIGHT. WITH THE ENERGY STILL DIRECTED IN THE ORIGINAL TRACT AND UPON GROUND CONTACT WITH THE LEFT SKID, A ROLLING MOTION WAS PRODUCED. THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED TO THE LEFT COMING TO REST ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, NO INJURIES WERE INFLECTED, AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE WEATHER WAS VFR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA155](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA155), Jun 8, 2003: Sesin EXEC90 (N8246J), Searcy, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The unqualified maintenance performed by the pilot and the inadequate autorotation by the pilot. A factor contributing to this accident was the overtemperature of the engine cooling system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
