## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 09, 2003, AT APPROXIMATELY 1730 CDST, N160BM, AN AMATEUR-BUILT RV6A, LOST POWER ON TAKEOFF AND LANDED IN A CORN FIELD APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES NW OF TEA, SD. TIRE TRACKS INDICATED THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNEVENTFUL FORCED LANDING IF THE NOSE WHEEL PANTS HAD NOT PLOWED INTO THE WET FIELD CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO CATAPULT APPROXIMATELY 30 YARDS LANDING ON ITS CANOPY. NO INDICATION OF PROPELLER ROTATION COULD BE FOUND. IGNITION, CARBURETOR, FUEL AVAILABILITY, FUEL PUMP, ENGINE COMPRESSION, OIL, OIL FILTER WERE ALL CHECKED WITH NO APPARENT ABNORMALITY NOTED. THE ONLY THING NOTED WAS A METAR REPORT FOR SIOUX FALLS, SD (SEVEN MILES TO THE NORTH OF THE ACCIDENT) SHOWED TEMPERATURE AS 23C AND DEWPOINT AT 13C.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
