## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH A TREE DURING A GO-AROUND ATTEMPT. WITNESSES REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT CIRCLED THE AIRPORT TWICE ABOVE THE TERRAIN, THEN APPROACH FOR AN APPARENT LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED FLYING DOWN THE RUNWAY, BUT DID NOT TOUCH DOWN BEFORE STARTING A GO-AROUND. DURING THE GO-AROUND ATTEMPT, THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED TURNING TO THE NORTH AT WHICH POINT IT COLLIDED WITH A TREE APPROXIMATELY 400' FROM THE EDGE OF THE AIRSTRIP. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPRIGHT ON THE GROUND, APPROXIMATELY 76' BEYOND THE POINT OF IMPACT WITH THE TREE. THE TREE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80' IN HEIGHT. THE TOP SECTION OF THE TREE WAS BROKEN OFF AND WAS LOCATED AT THE BASE OF THE TREE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT FLIGHT PATH. NOTE: AMENDED REPORT WILL BE FILED WHEN COMPLETE PILOT FLIGHT HISTORY IS AVAILABLE. FAMILY IS IN THE PROCESS OF PROVIDING THAT INFORMATION. (-23 AMENDMENT) POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED NO MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03FA100](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03FA100), Jun 12, 2003: Aviat A-1 (N104CA), Atlanta, ID, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: Clearance from trees was not maintained during the initial climb. A proper touchdown point was not attained, the pilot's lack of familiarity with the geographic area and trees were factors.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
