## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER COMPLETING THE APPROACH TO DROP THE MARKER DURING A "HARE AND HOUND" COMPETITION (SEE ORDER 8700.1, VOLUME 2, CHAPTER 49, SECTION 1, PARAGRAPH 8.J.(5)) DURING THE BIG BEAR BALLOON FESTIVAL AN APPROACH TO LANDING WAS STARTED. THE CREWMEMBERS ONBOARD ASSISTED THE PILOT BY PROVIDING HIM WITH THE LOCATIONS OF OTHER BALLOONS. THE BASKET HIT THE GROUND, WHILE REMAINING UPRIGHT, IT WOBBLED SOME. ONE CREWMEMBER SLIPPED WHILE THE BASKET WAS WOBBLING AND BROKE HER ANKLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC03LA143](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC03LA143), Jun 21, 2003: Aerostar International RX 8 (N71696), Grove City, OH, no damage. Probable cause: The passengers failure to maintain her balance inside the balloon basket.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
