## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRMAN ELECTED TO TAKEOFF ON RUNWAY 27 AT CLAY COUNTY AIRPORT, BRAZIL, IN FOR A RETURN TRIP TO EVANSVILLE, IN. AIRMAN WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS FIANCEE AND TWO OF HIS CHILDREN AGES 9 AND 11. THE RUNWAY LENGTH AT THIS AIRPORT IS 2941 FEET. WEATHER CONDITIONS AT 1700 EST WERE CLEAR SKIES, 10 MILES VISIBILITY, TEMPERATURE 80+ DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, AND LIGHT WIND. DURING THIS TAKEOFF ROLL THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT SEEM TO BE ACCELERATING AS FAST AS HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO. SOMEWHERE PAST THE HALF WAY POINT, HE ELECTED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF. HE APPLIED FULL BRAKES BUT WENT OFF THE RUNAY AND INTO A FENCE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED BUT NONE OF THE OCCUPANTS RECEIVED ANY INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA188](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA188), Jun 29, 2003: Piper PA-28-161 (N1660H), Brazil, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The delayed aborted takeoff by the pilot-in-command. A contributing factor was the fence, which the airplane contacted during the aborted takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
