## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) 06/30/03, N8264M, A CESSNA 210, PILOTED BY WILLIAM F. BROWN, DEPARTED TRAVERSE CITY MICHIGAN STOPPING IN GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA FOR FUEL BEFORE FLYING ON TO DURANGO, CO. AT APPROXIMATELY 1530MDT, MR. BROWN ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 01, AN ANIMAS AIR PARK. HE STATED THAT HE CAME IN HOT WITH FLAPS AT 30 DEGREES. AS THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN IN ENCOUNTERED A STRONG CROSSWIND. THE PILOT INITIATED A GO-AROUND. HE WENT TO FULL THROTTLE AND FLAPS TO 10 DEGREES, BUT THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT RESPOND AND HE LOST CONTROL AS THE WIND PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE RUNWAY. THE LAPLANTA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE DID AN INITIAL ON SCENE INVESTIGATION. MR. BROWN REPORTED TO OFFICER FALCONER THAT HE WAS LANDING ON RUNWAY 01 WHEN HE HEARD RADIO TRAFFIC FROM ANOTHER AIRCRAFT TAKING OFF ON RUNWAY 19. HE STATED THAT HE KNEW HE WAS GOING TO BE IN THE PATH OF THE SECOND AIRCRAFT, SO HE WENT TO FULL THROTTLE TO TAKE OFF TO GO AROUND ONE MORE TIME. THE INVESTIGATION ALSO SHOWED THAT THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE RUNWAY, TRAVELED 328' STRIKING A 4X4 POST AND SOME CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL BEFORE STOPPING. PHOTOS TAKEN SHOW THE FLAPS FULL UP. THE PILOT SUSTAINED ONLY MINOR FACIAL LACERATIONS. METAR/WINDS 27018G21KT
