## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS ATTEMPTING INITIAL TAKEOFF FROM A GRASS RUNWAY, ROTATED AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR, HAD STARTED CLIMBING WHEN THE AIRCRAFT LOST LIFT, AND DESCENDED BACK ONTO THE RUNWAY SURFACE AND BEGAN "BOUNCING". THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT RESULTING IN IT SWERVING TO THE LEFT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY WHERE THE RIGHT WING STRUCK A CEDAR TREE AT THE LEFT END OF THE RUNWAY. AFTER STRIKING THE TREE, THE RIGHT WING SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT, THE AIRCRAFT ROTATED CLOCKWISE AROUND THE TREE, AND SLID IN A REARWARD MOTION ACROSS A GRAVEL COVERED ROADWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST AFTER THE TAIL STRUCK SOME LARGE ROCKS AT THE ROADWAY'S EDGE. AT AN UNDETERMINEE POINT, THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO OPERATE AT FULL POWER UNTIL HE SHUT IT DOWN AFTER THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST. THE GRASS STRIP IS APPROXIMATELY ONE-HALF MILE IN LENGTH. IT VARIES IN ELEVATION FROM APPROXIMATELY 1265 MSL AT THE NORTH END TO 1229 MSL AT THE SOUTH END. TAKE OFF FROM THE SOUTH ENCOUNTERS A DIP WITH A FAIRLY SHARP INCLINE OF APPROX. FIFTY-FIVE FEET VERTICAL WITHIN AN APPROX. DISTANCE OF 1100 FEET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA186](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA186), Jun 30, 2003: Beech A35 (N564B), Douglass, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain adequate airspeed and his premature liftoff, which resulted in a stall. A factor to the accident was the tree.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
