## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRMAN WAS LANDING AT A PRIVATE SOD RUNWAY ACROSS FROM THE SKY HARBOR SEAPLANE BASE. THE AIRMAN MADE HIS APPROACH TO THE NORTH AND NOTICED A PERSON MOWING THE GRASS RUNWAY NEAR THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRMAN LANDED PAST THE PERSON MOWING, ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY, WHICH IS ONLY 1,800 FEET TOTAL IN LENGTH. THE AIRMAN ALSO LANDED FASTER THAN NORMAL, DUE TO HIS HIGHER APPROACH AND A SLIGHT QUARTERING TAILWIND. THE GRASS RUNWAY WAS SLIGHTLY DAMP, DUE TO MORNING DEW, MAKING THE RUNWAY SLIPPERY. ALL OF THESE COMBINATIONS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO SKID OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND STRIKE THE DITCH AND THEN THE AIRPORT ROAD. THIS TORE THE LEFT MAIN GEAR OFF OF THE AIRCRAFT AND DAMAGED THE LEFT WING, PROPELLER, AND ENGINE COWLING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA190](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA190), Jul 1, 2003: Cessna A185F (N30CM), Eveleth, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of speed and distance resulting in an overrun. Factors were the ditch embankment, and the tailwind component.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
