## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT APPROXIMATELY 1900 HOURS PST ON JULY 6, 2003 PILOT ROBERT SCHWARZLER, WITH ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD, CRASHED WHILE ATTEMPTING A TAKEOFF FROM A PRIVATE AIRFIELD NEAR ALSEA, OR. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF AND BECOMING AIRBORNE, THE PILOT DECIDED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND CRASHED. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE TAIL SECTION, PROP, TOP OF THE FUSELAE, AND GEAR WHEN IT WENT THROUGH A FENCE. AFTER RECEIVING A CALL FROM A NEIGHBOR, DEPUTY SHERIFF KURT VANMETER ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. MR. ROBERT SCHWARZLER REFUSED TO ALLOW THE DEPUTY ON HIS PROPERTY AND ADVISED IF THE FAA OR THE NTSB CAME TO HIS PROPERTY THEY WOULD BE REFUSED ACCESS AS WILL. WHILE THE OFFICER WAS OBSERVING MR. SCHWARZLER, HE DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS REASON TO BELIEVE THAT MR. SCHWARZLER MAY BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. THE OFFICER REQUESTED THAT MR. SCHWARZLER CONSENT TO A BREATH TEST FOR ALCOHOL. THE REQUEST WAS REFUSED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03LA126](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03LA126), Jul 7, 2003: Druckman 102 (N102DR), Alsea, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the take-off roll, when his foot became lodged between the rudder pedal and the heel brake. An additional factor is a fence near the area…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
