## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD JUST LIFTED OFF FROM THE SUPPORT TRUCK WITH A LOAD OF CHEMICAL AND FUEL AND TOOK OFF INTO THE WIND. HE MADE A WIDE SWING TO THE EAST TO LINE UP ON A SWATH HEADING NORTH. WHEN HE GOT ALMOST LINED UP, HE FELT THE HELICOPTER BEGIN TO LOSE ALTITUDE AND HE PUSHED THE CYCLIC FORWARD TO GAIN AIRSPEED, BUT SEEMED TO BE IN HIS OWN ROTORWASH AND KEPT LOSING ALTITUDE. HE THEN FLARED TO SLOW HIS GROUNDSPEED BEFORE CONTACTING THE GROUND. HE THEN STARTED TO SLIDE IN THE POTATO FIELD AND POTATO VINES CAUGHT THE SPRAY BOOMS CAUSING THE HELICOPTER TO NOSE OVER AND CAME TO REST ON ITS RIGHT SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA204](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA204), Jul 9, 2003: Continental Copters MK6B (N9080T), Ft. Yates, ND, substantial damage. Probable cause: The inadvertent settling with power and unsuccessful remedial action by the pilot. A factor to the accident was the potato crop.
