## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CREVE COURE AIRPORT (1H0): ON JULY 11TH, AT APPROXIMATELY 6:45 PM MR. CLARK RICHTER (OWNER) WAS PERFORMING A RUN UP TEST OF N444T (ROTORWAY EXEC 162F EXPERIMENTAL HELICOPTER) FOR A POST 25 HOUR INSPECTION AND CHECK. MR. RICHTER STATED THAT, DURING THE RUN-UP PROCEDURE AS THE ROTOR AND ENGINE RPM APPROACHED 100% THE HELICOPTER BECAME AIRBORNE. MR. RICHTER STATED THAT HE TRIED TO CORRECT THE SITUATION BY MAKING SURE THE COLLECTIVE WAS IN THE FULL DOWN POSITION, BUT THE AIRCRAFT HAD ALREADY STARTED TO ROLL TO THE LEFT. THE HELICOPTER ROLLED ONTO IT'S LEFT SIDE AND CAME TO REST. AN INTERVIEW WITH MR. RICHTER WAS CONDUCTED ON JULY 21ST, 2003. MR. RICHTER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO INTENTION FOR FLIGHT, HE FURTHER STATED THAT, IN ORDER TO FLY THIS AIRCRAFT SOLO, A 30 LB COUNTERWEIGHT MUST BE AFFIXED TO THE RIGHT SKID FOR BALANCE PURPOSES. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE ROLL OVER. ROTORS, ROTOR MAST, TAIL ROTOR, ENGINE MOUNT STRUCTURE, TAIL MAST STRUCTURE, LEFT SKID STRUCTURE, CABIN COMPOSITE SKIN AND CABIN WINDSHIELD ALL DAMAGED. NTSB RELEASED AIRCRAFT ON 07/28/03.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03IA207](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03IA207), Jul 11, 2003: Spiker Rotorway 162F (N444T), Creve Coeur, MO, incident, minor damage. Probable cause: The inadvertent dynamic rollover of the helicopter after the helicopter became airborne during an engine run-up.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
