## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) MINUTES PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF AIRSHOW ACTIVITIES, THE PILOT WAS ASKED BY ATCT PERSONNEL TO TURN BASE AND LAND BEYOND "THE CONES" WHICH APPARENTLY IS THE LAST HALF OF THE 5333 FOOT RUNWAY 34. THE PILOT CONTINUED WITH THE DOWNWIND, AND STATED THAT HE DID NOT HAVE THE CONES IN SIGHT. AT THIS POINT, THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS RATHER FORCEFULLY INSTRUCTED BY TOWER PERSONNEL TO TURN BASE AND LAND THE AIRCRAFT ON THE LAST HALF OF THE RUNWAY. HE DESCRIBED THE CONTROLLER AS PRACTICALLY SCREAMING INTO THE MICROPHONE FOR HIM TO TURN HIS BASE LEG. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BANKED ABRUPTLY TOWARD THE RUNWAY IN AN EFFORT TO COMPLY, WHICH RESULTED IN AN ACCELLERATED STALL. THE PILOT INITIATED THE PROPER RECOVERY TECHNIQUES, HOWEVER, HE DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE TO RECOVER BEFORE IMPACTING THE SURFACE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03LA134](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03LA134), Jul 11, 2003: Archer S-18T (N102PM), Arlington, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain an airspeed above Vs (stalling speed) while making a close-in base-to-final turn.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
