(-23) A PIPER PA-34-220T DEPARTED BARNET AIRPORT (BMQ) ON JULY 11, 2003, FOR A ROUND ROBIN FLIGHT TO ADDISON (ADS) AND RETURN. ON THE RETURN FLIGHT, THE PILOT NOTICED THE FUEL GAUGES WERE INDICATING A GREATER FUEL USAGE THAN SHOULD BE SEEN AT THE APPLIED POWER SETTING. PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING AT GEORGETOWN (GTU), ON FINAL APPROACH BOTH ENGINES LOST POWER SIMULTANEOUSLY. PILOT WAS UNABLE TO MAKE GEORGETOWN AND DIVERTED TO AN OPEN FIELD AND CRASHED SHORT OF THE FIELD. BOTH WINGS AND FUEL CELLS WERE TORN FROM THE AIRCRAFT AT TIME OF IMPACT. THERE WAS NO POST FIRE OR ANY INDICATION OF FUEL AT THE SITE. THE PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED ON THIS FAR 91 CONDUCTED FLIGHT. ACCIDENT HAS BEEN REFERRED TO THE SAFETY PROGRAM MANAGER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

A factor contributing to the accident was the presence of trees…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
