## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SATURDAY, JULY 12, 2003, AT APPROXIMATELY 0930 A AIRCRAFT N2545H WS CLEARED TO LAND ON GRASS RUNWAY 34 AT ARLINGTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, ARLINGTON, WASHINGTON. THE WIND WAS VARIABLE 6-8 KT AT 180 DEGREES, RESULTING IN A TAIL-WIND LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT OVERRAN THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND CROSSED A PAVED TAXIWAY PERPENDICULAR TO THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE SHALLOW DRAINAGE DITCHES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TAXIWAY WITH THE GROUND RISING SLIGHTLY ON THE NORTH OR FAR SIDE OF THE TAXIWAY. THE NOSE WHEEL BROKE AS THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP AND DOWN CROSSING THE TAXIWAY. THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT THE RISING GROUND AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER, LANDING ON IT'S TOP FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE CANOPY CRUSHED INJURING THE PILOT AND PASSENGER. THE PILOT SUFFERED A BROKEN NECK AND THE PASSENGER HAD MINOR INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT HAS DAMAGE TO SPINNER, PROPELLER, NOSE COWL, NOSE WHEEL, CANOPY, WINGS, HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL STABILIZERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03LA135](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03LA135), Jul 12, 2003: Ercoupe 415-D (N2545H), Arlington, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain proper approach speed and landing touch down point resulting in a runway overrun. A factor was the tailwind condition.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
