## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON TAKEOFF, AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP TO AN EXCESSIVE NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE, THEN HIT THE GROUND HARD, SKIDDED TO A STOP AND BURST INTO FLAMES. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD TAKEN OFF WITH THE ELEVATOR CONTROL LOCK INSTALLED. HE STATED THAT HE FORGOT TO REMOVE THE CONTROL LOCK BEFORE FLIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03CA144](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03CA144), Jul 21, 2003: WSK PZL Mielec PZL-M-18 (N2709Q), Burley, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to remove the elevator gust lock prior to flight. Factors include the pilot's inadequate preflight.

## Other reports on N2709Q (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19870820065679I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870820065679I), Aug 20, 1987: Wsk M18DROMADER (N2709Q), Elaine, AR, Minor damage. Temporary loss of power after liftoff. Landed with a side load and collapsed right main gear in a field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
