## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DEPARTED MOUNTAIN AIR VFR AND AFTER TAKEOFF HEARD A "CLUNK" IN THE NOSE GEAR COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE PILOT PUT THE GEAR DOWN IN THE PATTERN AT RUTHERFORDTON THE NOSE GEAR DID NOT SHOW DOWN AND LOCKED. THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES WERE FOLLOWED ACCORDING TO THE PILOT. THE PILOT DID A FLY-BY AND GROUND PERSONNEL VERIFIED THAT THE GEAR WAS NOT DOWN AND LOCKED. THE PILOT LANDED ON THE MAIN LANDING GEAR ON THE RUNWAY AND LET THE NOSE SETTLE TO THE GROUND. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE NOSE SECTION OF THE AIRPLANE AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO THE PROPS AND ENGINES. INVESTIGATION REVEALED NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE. THE AIRCRAFT RECORDS HAVE BEEN REQUESTED AND HAVE NOT ARRIVED AS OF 8/1/2003.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
