## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE PRACTICING GLASSY WATER LANDINGS AT COAL CREEK LAKE (APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES NORTH-NORTHWEST OF TYONEK, ALASKA), UPON LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT TURNED ABRUPTLY LEFT. THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE WATER. AIRCRAFT SUNK AND THEN FLOATED UPSIDE DOWN. AIRCRAFT LEFT WING IS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED OUTBOARD OF LEFT WING STRUT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC03LA086](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC03LA086), Jul 29, 2003: Cessna 185 (N913SM), Tyonek, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll, which resulted in a swerve and nose down.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
