## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N6JH (A PIPER PA-32-260) PILOTED BY STEVEN KRPATA (PILOT CERT. #41462709) ON AUGUST 4, 2003 WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 26 AT PIT-GREENVILLE AIRPORT (PGV), DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, IMPACTING A RUNWAY SIGN WITH THE RIGHT WING. THIS IN TURN CAUSED THE RIGHT WING FUEL TANK TO BE PENETRATED. N6JH THEN CROSSED RUNWAY 20 CAUSING SPARKS THAT IGNITED THE RIGHT WING AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ABOUT 1000 FEET FROM THE CENTER LINE OF RUNWAY 20. THE PIT-GREENVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL03LA123](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL03LA123), Aug 4, 2003: Piper PA-32-260 (N6JH), Greenville, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control after an aborted landing and subsequent collision with an airport runway sign.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
