(-23) AIRCRAFT RETURNED FOR LANDING DUE TO ROUGH RUNNING LEFT ENGINE. CREW DID NOT PERFORM A PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN. ON VERY SHORT FINAL, THE CHIP DETECT LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPON LANDING, CREW SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE, AND A/C TAXIED TO GATE WITHOUT INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE REMOVED & REPLACED ENGINE. ENGINE HAD APPROXIMATELY 600 HOURS SINCE OVERHAUL. FURTHER FOLLOW-UP SHOULD BE CONDUCTED BY CHDO. PILOTS ACTIONS OR LACK OF ACTIONS DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THIS INCIDENT. SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
