## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT VERTICAL STABILIZER STRUCK OVERHEAD WIRE DURING SPRAY RUN. VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER WERE FOUND IN FIELD APPROXIMATELY 100-200 FEET FROM WIRE, AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP OVER A 2ND ROW OF WIRES AT THE END OF THE FIELD AND IMPACTED IN ANOTHER FIELD ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM INITIAL WIRE STRIKE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS EQUIPPED WITH A TAIL WIRE DELECTOR SYSTEM, THE WIRE OF WHICH WAS FOUND BROKEN NEAR THE POINT WHERE IT ATTACHED TO THE VERTICAL STABILIZER AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE FUSELAGE BY ITS OTHER END. PILOT RECEIVED FATAL INJURIES IN ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA278](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA278), Aug 19, 2003: Ayres S2R-G6 (N23EG), Breckenridge, MI, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the powerlines during the aerial application pass rendering the airplane uncontrollable. The powerlines were a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
