## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON THE SECOND LEG OF A SOLO CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT, THE STUDENT PILOT HAD ALMOST REACHED TAKEOFF SPEED WHEN THE NOSE GEAR TIRE FAILED. WHEN THE PILOT ABORTED THE TAKEOFF, HE MOMENTARILY LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DUE TO THE TIRE FAILURE. THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE RUNWAY, CROSSED A GRASS AREA, AND CAME TO REST ON THE LANDING GEAR ON THE PARALLEL TAXIWAY. AIRCRAFT DAMAGE CONSISTED OF SLIGHT DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR FIBERGLASS FAIRING, AND A BENT PROPELLER. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FELT A BUMP OR A THUD THROUGH HIS FEET, WHICH WERE OPERATING THE RUDDER PEDALS AND BELIEVES HE HIT AN OBJECT ON THE RUNWAY DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL. HE STATED THAT A RUNWAY INSPECTION CONDUCTED AFTER THE INCIDENT, REVEALED A PIECE OF FIBERGLASS, WHICH HE BELIEVES HE HIT DURING TAKEOFF. HE SAID THE NOSE GEAR TIRE SUSTAINED A 4 INCH CUT ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE, WHICH CAUSED IT TO FAIL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
