## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS LANDING ON A 500 TO 600 FOOT LONG LANDING AREA ABOUT 10 MILES NORTH OF THE VILLAGE OF NOATAK, AK. IT WAS ABOUT 2200 LOCAL TIME AND THE CEILING WAS AT ABOUT 2000 FEET WITH FIVE MILES VISIBILITY. HIS FINAL APPROACH WAS TOO HIGH AND TOO FAST AND HE OVERSHOT HIS LANDING SPOT. HE CONTINUED TO TRY TO LAND THE AIRPLANE AND TOUCHED DOWN WITHOUT ENOUGH DISTANCE REMAINING TO STOP THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE RAN OFF THE END OF THE LANDING AREA AND ENCOUNTERED SOFT TERRAIN. THE LANDING GEAR DEPARTED THE AIRPLANE AND THE LEFT WING RECEIVED DAMAGE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE SHOULD HAVE TRIED ANOTHER APPROACH INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SAVE THE LANDING. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC03LA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC03LA101), Aug 23, 2003: Cloud-Wag Aero Sportsmen (N35CL), Noatak, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of the airplane's distance and speed, which resulted in the airplane not attaining the proper landing touchdown point and overrunning the landing site.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
