## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 25, 2003 THE PILOT WAS APPLYING CHEMICAL FERTILIZER TO 473 ACRES. JUST AS THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED THE NORTH END OF THE FIELD THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE PILOT TRIED TO LAND IN A NEARBY FIELD BUT COULD NOT EFFECTIVELY REDUCE HIS AIRSPEED. THIS RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT OVERSHOOTING THE FIELD AND IMPACTING A ROW OF TREES THAT ARE AT THE SOUTH END OF THE FIELD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW03LA204](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW03LA204), Aug 25, 2003: Air Tractor AT-301 (N301AF), Winnsboro, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate inflight planning, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
