## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PIC STATED THAT SHE ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRPLANE AND "AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE NUMBERS". WHEN SHE FLARED TO LAND THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE GROUND ABOUT 30 FEET BEFORE AND ABOUT 4 FEET BELOW THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE FOR ABOUT 60 FEET AND HIT A SECOND TIME AND SKIDDED, UPRIGHT, ABOUT 180 FEET, VEERING TO THE RIGHT AND STOPPED AT THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY AND IGNITED. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO IT BEING DESTROYED BY FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA03LA182](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA03LA182), Sep 1, 2003: Pitts S-2A (N5301W), Hillsboro, OR, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain the proper distance and altitude while on final approach which led to touching down short of the runway. The pilot's restricted visual lookout was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
