## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPT. 3, 2003, AT 1840Z-1340C, PIPER MALIBU, N550MP, WAS IFR ENROUTE FROM DECATUR, IL, TO BLOOMINGTON, IL, AT AN ASSIGNED ALTITUDE OF 12,000 FEET. THE PILOT ADVISED ATC THAT THE ENGINE MANIFOLD PRESSURE HAD DROPPED, FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE, TWENTY MILES SOUTH OF BLOOMINGTON, IL AIRPORT AND REQUESTED 8000 FEET. A MINUTE LATER THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND INFORMED ATC OF THE ENGINE FAILURE. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE PROPELLER CONTINUED TO WINDMILL QUITE FAST UNTIL AN INTERNAL ENGINE PART BROKE THROUGH THE ENGINE CRANKCASE AND THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE PILOT LANDED ON TAXIWAY 02 AT THE BLOOMINGTON, IL, AIRPORT WITHOUT INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
