## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 09, 2003, AT 15:22 PDT, A CESSNA 210L AIRPLANE, N93860, IMPACTED A TREE WHILE IN A LEFT GLIDING TURN APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET SHORT OF RUNWAY 10R AT MONTEREY PENINSULA AIRPORT, MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA. THE AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE WAS DESTROYED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE 14 CFR PART 91 PERSONAL FLIGHT. THE FLIGHT DEPARTED COLUMBIA AIRPORT (O22), COLUMBIA, CALIFORNIA AT AN UNKNOWN TIME AND AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED. WITNESSES TO THE ACCIDENT REPORTED THAT DURING THE EMERGENCY LANDING, THE RIGHT WING HIT A TREE, THE AIRPLANE SPUN, AND DOVE NOSE-FIRST INTO THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX03LA283](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX03LA283), Sep 9, 2003: Cessna 210L (N93860), Monterey, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate in-flight planning/decision, which resulted in a loss of engine power during an instrument approach to land, and an in-flight collision with a tree and terrain.

## Other reports on N93860 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
