## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER PERFORMING SEVERAL WATER LANDINGS IN HIS AIRCRAFT, THE PILOT LANDED ON THE HARD SURFACE OF RUNWAY 09 AT THE BOYNE CITY, MI. AIRPORT WITHOUT EXTENDING THE LANDING GEAR. PILOT STATED THAT HE PLACED THE GEAR SWITCH IN WHAT HE THOUGH WAS THE DOWN POSITION BUT DID NOT CHECK TO SEE IF THE DOWN INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. PILOT STATED THAT THE SWITCH WAS ACTUALLY IN THE NEUTRAL, CENTER DETENT POSITION AND NOT FULLY IN THE DOWN POSITION. LANDING ON LAND IS OFTEN PERFORMED IN THIS TYPE OF AIRCRAFT WITHOUT THE LANDING GEAR EXTENDED. HOWEVER IT IS USUALLY PERFORMED ON A SOD/GRASSY SURFACE AND NOT A PAVED RUNWAY. MINOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT KEEL OCCURRED BUT THE AIRCRAFT WAS ABLE TO BE FLOWN TO AN APPROPRIATE REPAIR FACILITY. A REEXAMINATION OF THE PILOT WAS PERFORMED ON 11-21-03 AT THE CHARLEVOIX, MI. AIRPORT WITH SATISFACTORY RESULTS. NO FURTHER ACTIONS ARE PLANNED. THIS MATTER IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
