## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND HAD A MULTIENGINE RATED SECOND PILOT ABOARD THIS AIRPLANE THAT DID NOT, HOWEVER, REQUIRE A SECOND PILOT. PURDUE UNIVERSITY, OWNER OF THE AIRPLANE, USED THE AIRPLANE IN ORIENTATION FLIGHTS THAT ALLOWED INEXPERIENCED PILOTS--BUT RATED--TO ACT AS A SECOND-IN-COMMAND MIGHT ACT. UPON START OF TAXIING, THE PIC ASKED THE SIC IF THE RIGHT WINGTIP WOULD CLEAR A FUEL TRUCK. THE SIC RESPONSE IN THE AFFIRMATIVE. THE WINGTIP DID NOT CLEAR THE FUEL TRUCK. THE TAXI WAS TERMINATED AND THE AIRPLANE REMAINED ON THE GROUND UNTIL REPAIRS TO THE WINGTIP WERE MADE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
