## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) IN A TELEPHONE INTERVIEW MR. D'AGOSTINO STATED THAT HE AND HIS PASSENGER WERE SCOUTING THE DRIFT RIVER FOR SUITABLE HUNTING LOCATIONS. THEY NOTED TIRE TRACKS ON A LANDING AREA NEXT TO THE RIVER AND LANDED. PRIOR TO DEPARTURE MR. D'AGOSTINO DETERMINED THE WIND DIRECTION AND STEPPED OFF 200 YARDS OF AVAILABLE TAKEOFF DISTANCE NOTING ADDITIONAL ROOM BEYOND THE MEASURED DISTANCE. IN ADDITION TO THE 2 OCCUPANTS THE AIRPLANE WAS LOADED WITH BACKPACKS, RIFLES, AND 35 TO 40 GALLONS OF GASOLINE. BECAUSE TAKEOFFS UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS HAD REQUIRED 100 YARDS HE WAS SATISFIED THAT THERE WAS AMPLE ROOM FOR TAKEOFF. THE AIRPLANE FAILED TO ACHIEVE FLYING SPEED DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL AND THE TAKEOFF WAS ABORTED PRIOR TO REACHING THE END OF THE RUNWAY. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE AIRPLANE FLIPPED FORWARD ONTO ITS BACK. UPON EXITING THE AIRPLANE THE PILOT NOTED THAT THE WIND HAD SHIFTED 180 DEGREES AND WAS NOW A TAILWIND.
