## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2003, BRIAN CONWAY, AS PIC OF A BE-55, N1028W, FLEW AN UNEVENTFUL TEST FLIGHT, AFTER HAVING ENGINE AND PROPELLER WORK COMPLETED ON HIS AIRCRAFT. AFTER THE .7 HOUR TEST FLIGHT, HE ELECTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 3 AT THE CHARLOTTESVILLE AIRPORT (CHO). BASE LEG AND FINAL WERE HIGH, HOWEVER, THE GLIDE SLOPE OF THE ILS WAS CAPTURED DURING THE LATTER PART OF FINAL, CULMINATING IN A SMOOTH LANDING. AT ABOUT 30 KNOTS DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT, THE AIRCRAFT HIT A BUMP, AND THE GEAR COLLAPSED. MR. CONWAY EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND UPON RE-EXAMINING OF THE COCKPIT, NOTICED THAT THE GEAR HANDLE WAS UP, AND THE FLAP HANDLE WAS DOWN (30 DEGREES). DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR AND GEAR DOORS IS CONSISTENT WITH MR. CONWAY SELECTING THE GEAR HANDLE UP, INSTEAD OF THE FLAPS, DURING THE ROLLOUT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
