## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER THE PREVIOUS FLIGHT, PIC HAD PLACED TAPE OVER THE PILOT TUBE IN LIEU OF A COVER. WHILE PREPARING FOR THIS FLIGHT, HE NEGLECTED TO REMOVE THE TAPE. HE STATED THAT DURING HIS TAKEOFF ROLL HE WAS NOT READING AN ACCURATE AIRSPEED INDICATION. WHEN THE AIRPLANE LIFTED OFF THE GROUND, HIS AOA SYSTEM WENT INTO ALARM AND HE ATTEMPTED TO RELAND THE AIRPLANE. HOWEVER, THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT DISTANCE REMAINING TO STOP BEFORE IMPACTING TREES PAST THE END OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI03LA325](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI03LA325), Sep 19, 2003: Brice Lancair Legacy (N27RM), Kimberling City, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delayed aborted takeoff. Contributing to the accident was the pilot's inadequate preflight planning/preparation in his failure to remove the pitot cover.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
