## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT FAILED TO PROPERLY CONTROL GLIDE PATH AND AIRSPEED DURING APPROACH TO A SHORT FIELD LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONFIGURED WITH THE FLAPS EXTENDED 30 DEGREES. AIRSPEED WAS ALLOWED TO DETERIORATE AND AIRCRAFT WENT BELOW GLIDE PATH. THE PILOT ABANDONED THE LANDING APPROACH AT 10 FEET TO 15 FEET AGL AND ATTEMPTED TO GO-AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED IN A LEVEL ATTITUDE AND TOUCHED DOWN ON MAIN AND NOSE LANDING GEAR LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE AND 25 FEET SHORT OF RUNWAY. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR STRUCK A RUNWAY END IDENTIFIER LIGHT AND COLLAPSED, CAUSING PROPELLER STRIKE AND SUDDEN ENGINE STOPPAGE. THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 110 FEET AND CAME TO REST ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. AIRCRAFT LOADING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT BROUGHT THE GROSS WEIGHT TO WITHIN 30 POUNDS OF MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE. AIRCRAFT LOADING WAS WITHIN 25 POUNDS OF MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE GROSS WEIGHT AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 100 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS 3200 FEET. THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN A STABILIZED APPROACH AND AIRSPEED AND UNTIMELY GO-AROUND DECISION UNDER CONDITIONS OF HIGH GROSS WEIGHT AND DENSITY ALTITUDE EXCEEDED THE AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE CAPABILITY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX03CA299](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX03CA299), Sep 22, 2003: Cessna 150F (N3093X), Reedley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain the proper glide path and airspeed during final, which resulted in an inadvertent stall/mush.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
