## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PILOT WAS FLYING FROM LAKE MINCHUMINA TO FAIRBANKS AFTER HIS HUNTING TRIP. PILOT WAS FLYING USING THE FUEL IN LEFT WING TANK ONLY UNTIL THAT TANK WENT DRY. HE THEN SWITCHED TO HIS RIGHT TANK (RIGHT WING TANK WAS FULL). 10 MIN AFTER SWITCHING TO THE RIGHT WING TANK, THE A/C BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND THEN WENT DOWN RESULTING IN A CRASH LANDING. PILOT COMMENTED, IN HINDSIGHT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE RAN ENGINE UNTIL ONE WING TANK WAS DRY. THE PILOT WAS VERY HELPFUL AND FORTHCOMING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC03LA123](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC03LA123), Sep 24, 2003: Piper PA-18 (N330T), Nenana, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power during cruise flight for an undetermined reason, which resulted in a forced landing and an in-flight collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
