## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT REPORTED, AT APPROXIMATELY 1105 AM LOCAL, NEAR THE FAK VOR, HE FELT AN UNUSUAL AND VIOLENT VIBRATION AND ALSO NOTICED A SUDDEN, TOTAL LOSS OF CHT AND EGT INDICATIONS ON THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER. OIL PRESSURE AND OIL TEMPERATURE WERE OBSERVED IN THE GREEN ARC. THE PILOT WAS CLEARED TO CHESTERFIELD VIRGINIA (FCI). PILOT REPORTED APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE LATER, THE ENGINE RPM DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE POINT WHERE HE COULD NOT SAFELY REACH FCI. AFTER A BRIEF ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO REGAIN ENGINE POWER, THE PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING, PASSING OVER HIGH TENSION WIRES AND UNDER A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE EASTBOUND LANE OF OLD HUNDRED ROAD WITH THE LEFT WINGTIP AND THEN CAME TO A STOP WITHOUT STRIKING ANY OTHER VEHICLES, PEDESTRIANS OR PROPERTY. INVESTIGATION DETERMINED THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER WAS SEPARATED COMPLETELY IN THE AREA OF WHERE THE CYLINDER BARREL IS JOINED TO THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE NUMBER 2 FUEL INJECTOR LINE WAS FOUND FRACTURED AT THE ATTACHMENT TO THE NOZZLE AND THE NUMBER 2 INTAKE HOSE WAS FOUND DISPLACED ON THE TUBE. THE MAINTENANCE RECORDS INDICATED THIS CYLINDER WAS INSTALLED ON 12/16/2000, AT 4110 HOURS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
