(-23) WHILE ON A TAKE-OFF ROLL AT BOCA RATON AIRPORT AT 1737 HRS. LOCAL TIME ON OCTOBER 07 2003, THE PILOT, MR. BENJAMIN RHODES NOTICED THAT THE AIRSPEED INDICATOR WAS NOT WORKING. ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY THE TAKE-OFF WAS ABORTED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP ON THE RUNWAY. AN AIRPORT GROUNDS WORKER WAS CUTTING THE GRASS AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE WHEEL BRAKES AND NOTIFIED THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER BY RADIO TO ALERT THEM OF THE SITUATION. THE PILOT OVERHEARD THE RADIO CALL, SHUT DOWN THE ENGINES AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND EXTINGUISHED THE WHEEL FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT IS CURRENTLY AWAITING REPLACEMENT PARTS AND WILL BE REPAIRED AT BOCA RATON AIRPORT. ON 10/22/03 THE AIRCRAFT WAS INSPECTED BY THIS OFFICE AND THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE BRAKE FIRE WAS MINOR. PHOTOGRAPHS WERE MADE PART OF THE INCIDENT PACKAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
