## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING APPROACH TO LAND ON RUNWAY 21 AT PHOENIX REGIONAL AIRPORT (A39), PILOT STATED ENCOUNTERING GUSTY CROSSWIND CONDITIONS AND PERFORMED A GO-AROUND. ON SECOND APPROACH, PILOT STATED AGAIN ENCOUNTERING GUSTY CROSSWIND CONDITIONS BUT ELECTED TO CONTINUE APPROACH. AFTER CROSSING TREES AT THE NORTH END OF RUNWAY, PILOT ALLOWED AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT OVER MEDIAN TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY AND TOUCH DOWN ON PLOWED MEDIAN. IMPACT MARKS INDICATE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED AND NOSE WHEEL BROKE OFF ON SECOND LANDING. AIRCRAFT SLID APPROXIMATELY 120 FEET AND STOPPED IN MEDIAN BETWEEN RUNWAY 21 AND THE EAST PARALLEL. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO BELLY, LEFT WING TIP, RIGHT WING TIP AND RIGHT RUDDER. PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. CAUSAL FACTORS HAVE NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

- [NTSB LAX04CA008](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04CA008), Oct 9, 2003: Velocity XL (N658SE), Casa Grande, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's misjudged landing flare and inadequate compensation for crosswind conditions, which resulted in his failure to maintain runway alignment.
