## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED HE HAD BEEN PRACTICING AEROBATICS AT 4000 FT AGL. HE ENTERED A FLAT SPIN MANEUVER AND WHEN HE THOUGHT IT WAS TIME TO RECOVER FROM THE SPIN HE STATED HE WAS TOO LOW TO RECOVER NORMALLY OR BAIL OUT. THE PILOT STATED THAT TO CUSHION THE IMPACT HE WOULD APPLY FULL POWER AND RAISE THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A HANGER AND THE FIREWALL FORWARD WENT INTO THE HANGER AND SET THE HANGER ON FIRE. THE REST OF THE AIRCRAFT AND PILOT CAME TO REST BESIDE THE HANGER. PILOT RECEIVED MINOR CUTS AND SPRAINED ANKLE. ONE OTHER AIRCRAFT DESTROYED INSIDE HANGER. PILOT STATED THERE WERE NO MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRCRAFT AND ALL SYSTEMS WERE OPERATING CORRECTLY. PILOT STATED THAT HE MADE A MISTAKE IN JUDGEMENT OF HIS ALTITUDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL04LA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL04LA014), Oct 12, 2003: McCan Velox Revolution II (N296VX), Mooresville, NC, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate in-flight planning/decision to conduct an aerobatic maneuver at an altitude too low to initiate a recovery.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
