## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS APPROACHING TO LAND ON THE GRASS "GLIDER RUNWAY" ADJACENT TO RUNWAY 5 AT HARNETT COUNTY, NC. WHILE ATTEMPTING THE FLARE, THE PILOT REALIZED HE WAS NOT OVER THE RUNWAY AND BANKED TO MOVE OVER THE CENTERLINE. IN DOING THIS, THE LEFT AIR BRAKE CAUGHT AN EARTH EMBANKMENT WHICH DETACHED THE CABLE ATTACHED TO THAT CONTROL SURFACE. VERY MINOR SKIN DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED AT THE ATTACH POINTS OF THE AIR BRAKE. AN INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED NO OTHER DAMAGE. THE PILOT CURRENTLY HOLDS A PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE WITH AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE LAND AND SEA. HE IS CURRENTLY TRAINING FOR HIS GLIDER RATING AND HAD A SOLO ENDORSEMENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
