## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH A POWER LINE WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH AT NIGHT FOR RUNWAY 12 AT WHITEMAN AIRPARK, PACOIMA, CA. DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT IS SUBSTANTIAL, WITH THE ENTIRE LEFT WING REMAINING AT THE POLE ABOUT 60 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. PILOT CLAIMS THE RUNWAY AND VAPI LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING, HOWEVER ALL AIRPORT RECORDS AND EMPLOYEES INDICATE NORMAL LIGHT OPERATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04LA025](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04LA025), Oct 25, 2003: Piper PA-28R-200 (N15192), Pacoima, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain an adequate glide path on final approach and his failure to ensure adequate clearance from obstacles. The dark night was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
