## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FLIGHT 2473 WAS CLIMBING THROUGH 6000 FEET FROM PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE CREW NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE GP-300 AUTO-PILOT. ATC WAS CONTACTED WITH THE PROBLEM AND CREW ELECTED TO RETURN TO PIT. NO EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL FROM PSA DISCOVERED THAT THE VASI BUTTON ON THE GP-300 WAS STUCK IN THE "ON" POSITION. THE GP-300 WAS REPLACED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THE PILOTS ACTIONS OR LACK OF ACTIONS DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THIS INCIDENT. SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
