(-23) THE PIC/INSTRUCTOR STATED THAT HE WAS INSTRUCTING ANOTHER PILOT, ALVARO SALDARRIAGA IN A MANUEVER THAT CALLED FOR A RETURN TO THE DEPARTING RUNWAY AFTER AN ENGINE FAILURE. MR. BUREL STATED THAT HE CLOSED THE THROTTLE ON THE STUDENT AS THEY CROSSED THE DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY 36 AT LEEWARD AIR RANCH AT APPROX. 700 FEET AGL. THE STUDENT STARTED A LEFT HAND TURN BACK TO THE RUNWAY AT AN ANGLE OF BANK OF 55-60 DEGREES, WHICH WAS NECESSARY TO MAKE THE RUNWAY. AT SOME POINT DURING THE TURN, THE STUDENT APPLIED AN EXCESSIVE RUDDER INPUT, STALLING AND CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO ENTER A SPIN. MR BUREL TOOK THE CONTROLS AND RECOVERED THE AIRCRAFT AS IT WAS AGAIN HEADING N.E. DURING THE RECOVERY THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO CLEAR THE TREES. THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO STRIKE AN OAK TREE IN A CLIMBING ATTITUDE, WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO CRASH.
