## Narrative

THE AIRPLANE WAS OWNED AND OPERATED BY A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL OPERATING UNDER FAR PART 91. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT, WHO HELD AN AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT CERTIFICATE FOR ROTORCRAFT, SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES; THE AIRPLANE WAS DESTROYED. THE FLIGHT HAD DEPARTED THE HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (HNL), HONOLULU HAWAII, AT 1751, FOR THE CROSS-COUNTRY FEERY FLIGHT TO THE MAINLAND. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE NEAREST REPORTING STATION, AND AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES (IFR) FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04LA046](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04LA046), Nov 17, 2003: Suminski Cozy Long Ez (N534S), Maui, HI, destroyed. Probable cause: The loss of engine power during cruise flight for an undetermined reason, which resulted in an emergency descent and ditching.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
