## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON NOVEMBER 21, 2003 AT 1535 EST A PIPER PA-28-140, N6910W DURING CRUISE FLIGHT LOST ENGINE POWER. THE PILOT TRIED TO REACH THE NIAGARA FALLS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BUT AS HE GOT CLOSER, DECIDED HE COULD NOT MAKE IT. HE CHOSE A VACANT PARKING LOT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE AIRPORT AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE INSPECTOR ON SCENE CHECKED THE FUEL QUANTITY AND THE TANKS WERE HALF FULL AND NO OTHER VISIBLE DISCREPANCIES WERE NOTED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED ACROSS THE STREET TO THE AIRPORT AND SECURED IN ITS HANGAR. (-23 AMENDMENT) AFTER A MORE COMPLETE INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE #3 CYLINDER EXHAUST VALVE BROKE APART AND THAT CAUSED THE POWER LOSS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
