## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS MAKING AN IFR APPROACH FOR LANDING AND HAD MADE VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE GROUND WHEN HE FOUND HIMSELF IN A "BLACK HOLE." HE CONTINUED HIS LANDING AND TOUCHED DOWN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND WHEN CROSSING A TAXIWAY, THE NOSE WHEEL BROKE FREE OF THE NOSE LANDING GEAR. AFTER SKIDDING ACROSS THE TAXIWAY ON THE NOSE LANDING GEAR, THE NOSE GEAR FORK ASSEMBLY BROKE AND FOLDED BACK, PUNCTURING THE PRESSURE VESSEL (SKIN) AND DAMAGING FRAME MEMBERS. GROUND PERSONNEL HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING THE AIRCRAFT DUE TO DENSE FOG.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04LA058](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04LA058), Dec 5, 2003: Cessna 525 (N15C), San Diego, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control and to initiate a timely go-around when visual contact with the runway was lost.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
