## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N1338B WAS ON A PERSONAL SOLO FLIGHT FROM HOLLISTER MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (3O7) TO REID-HILLVIEW OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY AIRPORT (KRHV). THE AIRCRAFT MADE A NORMAL THREE-POINT LANDING ON RUNWAY 31L WITH CALM WIND. DURING THE LANDING ROLL-OUT, THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED JUST PAST TAXIWAY CHARLIE, EXITED THE RUNWAY, AND STRUCK THE TAXIWAY SIGN CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER ONTO ITS BACK. THE CRASH INTO THE SIGN AND RESULTING FLIP CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT'S STRUCTURE. THE PILOT RECEIVED NO INJURY. ALTHOUGH THE PILOT STATED HE DID NOT USE THE BRAKES, THE SKID MARKS ON THE RUNWAY PRECEDED THE TAXIWAY CHARLIE EXIT FROM THE RUNWAY GIVING THE APPEARANCE THE PILOT HAD ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE FOR TAXIWAY CHARLIE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX04CA070](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX04CA070), Dec 18, 2003: Luscombe 8E (N1338B), San Jose, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
