## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON DECEMBER 20, 2003 AT ABOUT 10:59 AM CENTRAL TIME A BELL 206-B N62HF, STRUCK A GUIDE WIRE BETWEEN TWO POWER POLES, WITH THE AFT END OF THE TAIL BOOM, WHILE LANDING IN A FIELD NEXT TO AN AUTOMOBILE DEALERSHIP IN HENRYETTA, OK. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE REALIZED THAT HE HAD SNAGGED SOMETHING WITH THE TAIL WHILE FLARING TO LAND. THE HELICOPTER WAS OPERATING UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF 14 CFR PART 91. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE HELICOPTER STRUCK THE GUIDE WIRE ON THE AFT PORTION OF THE TAIL BOOM, JUST FORWARD OF THE LOWER VERTICAL STABILIZER AND CUT INTO THE STABILIZER ABOUT TEN INCHES FROM THE REAR. THE TAIL ROTOR STRUCK THE TAIL ROTOR WITH ONLY ABOUT FOUR INCHES OF ROTOR BLADE STILL ON THE HUB. THE HELICOPTER CAME TO A REST ON THE FRONT OF THE SKIDS WITH THE TAIL HANGING FROM THE GUIDE. THE PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE ON BOARD WITH NO INJURIES. THE HELICOPTER HAD SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, TO THE AFT PORTION OF THE TAIL BOOM FIN, AND TAIL ROTOR BLADES. ONE MAIN ROTOR BLADE HAD A HOLE THROUGH IT ABOUT 14 INCHES INBOARD FROM THE END.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW04LA046](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW04LA046), Dec 20, 2003: Bell 206B (N62HF), Henryetta, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate visual look out and failure to maintain clearance from guy wire while maneuvering for landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
