JOSEPH KOENIG WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WHEN IT IMPACTED THE GROUND DURING A FORCED LANDING FOLLOWING A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WHILE DIVERTING TO SHERIDAN MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (9M8) NEAR SHERIDAN, ARKANSAS. THE PILOT HAD REPORTED THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND WAS IN SIGHT OF THE SHERIDAN AIRPORT AND THE ENGINE QUIT. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW04LA053](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW04LA053), Jan 1, 2004: Mooney M20R (N5284C), Sheridan, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to fuel starvation as a result of the pilot's improper positioning of the fuel tank selector. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
